The categories are meant to be pretty broad, so I think Grey was going with what would make for the neatest looking character. That said, it's worth noting. I may make up "familiar but not quite" fantasy terms for them to avoid this kind of disconnect.
Maybe I can just find odd words for their general purpose, rather than a specific genus? Really it can be broken down to Predator/Hunter, Skitter/Sneak, Swimmer and Runner/Mount.
Mmmm... while yes, we are all fish in a Neil Shubin sense, why is an axolotl a 'pisces' rather than, I don't know, a 'herpetiles'?

DeleteFantasy terms would be good, and less real world morphs? Could use growlhund, purr etc... for world consistency
Maybe a Fantastical Zoological Nomenclature would be a cool way to organise the bestiary!
