The Big Plan of the moment

So it's no secret we've been plugging at this book for a while now - while it is in fact, written, layout, art, and so forth take a while and Grey is going full speed ahead on it. In the mean time I have about two full supplement's worth of stuff drafted and waiting in the wings. So once this gets off the ground, you'll have plenty of content, don't worry.

The big thing we've been talking about is how we are going to release things once the main book is ready. Grey had a pretty cool idea - zine style releases periodically, while I suggested things could be collected (based on demand) into bigger books later on. The zine thing is particularly nice as it's something Grey and I could probably keep up with as our two man team.

As for a preview - I am sorry about that. We'll have something around release (so people know what they are getting into) but at the moment we figured we'd put our energy into getting this full game out for all of you.

Anyway, thanks for reading!

  2. Sounds to me like a good plan of action for long-term support. It seems that one of the challenges Grey Wizard is facing getting the main book together is trying to balance between ease-of-use during play with readability. I feel having smaller zine-like releases will forgo that problem initially and the problem of how to organize material will be solved by the time they are ready to be compiled into a full book.

I'm of course a little sad that we in the general public will have to wait a while longer to get a look at the main book, but I can certainly understand wanting to focus on getting that done until it's ready.

    1. Brian, you are also a legend.

The continued support we get really fires me up.

      Yes small is best!

  3. One thing I saw recently that may fit your idea was something Filigree forge did with their everywhen project. They released the core book as pdf only on drivethru rpg a month before allowing print on demand. That way they could gather impressions, reword things, identify typos and what not and make those changes to the pdf. Then they allowed print on demand with the updated version and gave a timed discount to those that bought before the newer release.

    1. We were considering something like that - it makes sense to catch a lot of those 1st edition errors!

    2. I'd rather see a professional do the job. Sure, that I'm a copy-editor myself has a bearing on this, but still, imagine the same thing done to a book with illustrations. Sure, it's more than fine for a community collaboration, but for a commercial book with high production values, it just doesn't cut it IMHO.

To be fair, I might be a little grumpy because it seems like artists get all the attention nowadays :D

At any rate, it's really reassuring to hear that there's light at the end of this tunnel of waiting. My excitement has waxed and waned over the years, but now the flame's definitely been reignited!

    3. Oh no worries, we are going to hire editors as well. This would be like, step 3.

  4. Sounds like a plan. Necrotic Gnome released their BX Essentials line in several small booklets. Filigree Forge's approach with Everywhen was also commendable; the cost of the phone with was discounted off the PoD for the early adopters.

  5. I think the zine style would work very well for this product.
