Not thought this though at all but... could use dice combos to create complex meaning/outcomes e.g "Sword + Skull = Critical strike!"
Can get cheap, low-volume production from somewhere like this.

I'm a fuddy duddy when it comes to required die, I'll admit - though it may be fun to have some optional fun dice to go with the game.

ReplyDeleteIf the dice came with the game. Or maybe this is just weird conservative against new and different things. But at the same time, non-standard dice might create a barrier to new players.
Yeah, the idea is that you would stick to D6 coz ubiquitous.
DeleteThe 'special' dice could be swapped out for regular D6.
Special dice could have standard digits on so look-up tables could be easily mapped to both.
Seems like dice preference really polarizes opinion
I do like the "hey here are some neat optional die" idea. There is really no harm if they are more of a fun choice then a necessity.
DeletePeople do seem to really care a lot about dice though; I think its because they are the most tangible aspect of the game's mechanics.
